Under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000, all hydraulic accumulators over a certain age must be tested periodically. The Hydraulic Centre recommends that they are tested and certified every five years from new.
A myriad of regulations apply to hydraulic accumulators, depending on where and how they are used. • Two basic codes, from the U. S. and European Union, govern the design of most accumulators. • Many countries amend the basic codes with additional testing and certification requirements.
To ensure the safety of operators and equipment, various regulations govern their design, manufacture, and installation. Unfortunately, there is no recognized global certification standard that applies universally, regardless of where and how an accumulator is used.
The Hydraulic Centre now offers a full Accumulator Testing Service to meet these regulations. The Hydraulic Centre have been supplying accumulator products for many years. Our engineers are fully trained and qualified by Fawcett Christie and QHP to carry out tests on accumulators.
These undergo the same rigorous procedures as bladder type accumulators. We can accommodate accumulators up to 29 cm diameter by 214 cm long in the Volumetric Expansion Stretch Test Rig. For larger accumulators we carry out an hydrostatic test which conforms to the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000.
• Operating fluids must be in Group 2 (nonhazardous). • Certified vessels must receive a CE mark if: volume is greater than 1 liter and pressure capacity (the product of service pressure and volume, PS × V) exceeds 50 bar-liter; or service pressure PS exceeds 1,000 bar. In general, all accumulators larger than 1 liter must be CE marked.
