As shown in Fig. 1, a photovoltaic-energy storage-integrated charging station (PV-ES-I CS) is a novel component of renewable energy charging infrastructure that combines distributed PV, battery energy storage systems, and EV charging systems.
Scenario analysis and numerical simulation revealed that PVCSs not only generate significant economic and environmental benefits but also effectively alleviate the impact and dependence of EV charging loads on the electrical grid system.
The results provide a reference for policymakers and charging facility operators. In this study, an evaluation framework for retrofitting traditional electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs) into photovoltaic-energy storage-integrated charging stations (PV-ES-I CSs) to improve green and low-carbon energy supply systems is proposed.
The total investment cost of the energy storage system for each charging station can be calculated by multiplying the investment cost per kWh of the energy storage system by the capacity of the batteries used for energy storage. Therefore, transforming traditional electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs) around residential areas into charging systems integrated with “distributed PV + energy storage” is among the most direct ways to reduce emissions (Saber & Venayagamoorthy, 2011).
Furthermore, Liu et al. (2023) employed a proxy-based optimization method and determined that compared to traditional charging stations, a novel PV + energy storage transit system can reduce the annual charging cost and carbon emissions for a single bus route by an average of 17.6 % and 8.8 %, respectively.
